The Somerset Guild is one of the oldest Craft Guilds in the country and has been promoting excellence in design and craftsmanship for well over 80 years; in 2018 the Guild will be celebrating 85 years of superb craftsmanship. All our makers are skilled, dedicated craftsmen and women who have undergone a stringent selection process before becoming accepted as exhibition members. To be a member of the Somerset Guild, is the same mark of quality today as it was in 1933.
Based in the beautiful cathedral City of Wells, the Guild has a County wide membership of over 100 members. The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen (SGC) Gallery is open throughout the year, showcasing an ever increasing range of members’ work for you to admire and buy, knowing that you have acquired a piece that is beautifully and individually created by a local maker.
With as many as sixty members exhibiting work at any one time, the range of skills displayed in the Guild's gallery is very diverse. Many makers use traditional techniques to create contemporary work ranging from pottery and ceramics, glass, metalwork and wood through to furniture and textiles. Most makers are happy to accept commissions. Alongside our own members' work is a changing programme of exhibitions by guest craftsmen and designers and a regular programme of craft workshops.
