Danish mother and daughter, Maria and Giuly Johannsen, also known as
“Duo con Moto”, are on tour in the UK and will perform a stunning programme of masterpieces by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and R.Strauss
Soprano Maria Johannsen specialises in Lieder and also gives talks in German, Danish and English. She has given recitals including both opera and oratorio arias, and Lieder, in Germany, Denmark, Italy, Saint Petersburg and England. For many years Maria has had a very busy recital schedule with the ensemble Corde di Gioia - Strings of Joy - with her two daughters. For this trio the English composer Dr. Liz Lane wrote the song cycle "Brightest Day" on the themes of travel, the weather and the Danish concept "hygge".
Now with Giuly Johannsen,as Duo con Moto they will be sharing their passion for Lieder and the violin repertoire, especially for Russian music, with audiences in Bray, Oxford, Burgh House Hampstead Heath, Edinburgh Society of Music and St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.
Giuly Johannsen was born in Italy and grew up there, in England and in Denmark. She began playing the violin when she was 5 years old . Besides the violin she also plays the piano, as Lieder accompaniment and chamber music. She receives music teaching from Maria Johannsen, Sholto Kynoch, director of Oxford Lieder festival, and studies violin with Frederik Øland, violinist in the Danish String Quartet.
