Illustrated lecture with the Reverend Professor David Thomas.
Wherever they have lived, Muslims have cultivated gardens filled with lush growth and abundant water. With its origins in arid regions, Islam prizes greenery, fountains and pools, and the foretaste they offer of the paradise depicted in the Qur’an. From the perspective of our city’s own gorgeous water gardens surrounding The Bishop’s Palace, David Thomas looks at famous gardens in the Islamic world and their recreation of paradise on earth.
