The Gardens of Stourhead with Alan Power Garden and Estate Manage of Stourhead
Arguably the most beautiful and magical of all the great English landscape gardens, Stourhead is an 18th-century view of Arcadia. With its hills, grotto, lake and classical architecture overlaid by a fabulous collection of trees and shrubs, it was described as ‘a living work of art’ when it opened in the 1740s. Meandering paths offer vistas through trees to classical temples and surprises at every turn.
Alan Power, Garden and Estate Manager of Stourhead, gives an illustrated talk about the history and management of this historic estate, as well as his career working in some other important gardens and as the presenter of the BBC’s Gardens in Time. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end.
