Sunday 1st March
Complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas 4/7 with Jonathan Biss
In its vast scale, intensity and sheer technical difficulty, Beethoven’s op.106 Hammerklavier is by far the toughest of any of his 32 piano sonatas. It tests every aspect of the pianist’s art almost to the point of destruction. Yet the shattering tensions of its epic outer movements frame one of Beethoven’s greatest Adagios, with arching melodic lines and bewitching harmonic shifts, which demand a different kind of authority altogether. Plus the sonatas op.10 no. 2, op.14 no.2 and the deliciously quirky op.31 no.3.
Tickets: £14 - £23. Free for 25s and under.
